Playboy is one of the most recognizable magazines around. The women who grace its covers become famous not just for the month, but for years to come.

Case in point: Playboy invited back seven Playmates to re-enact their iconic cover shoots 20, 30, even almost 40 years later, proving Playboy's "once a Playmate, always a Playmate" mantra stands true.

Playboy editor Anna del Gaizo, along with photographers Ryan Lowry and Ben Miller, told the story, and shared some of the covers, old and new, with us:

Kimberley Conrad Hefner graced the cover in August 1988. Still classy in that bowler hat and tie!

And Candace Collins, on the cover in February 1979, is still an inviting way to welcome Valentine's Day.

Renée Tenison gave us peak profile realness in June 1990. Her silhouette is just as gorgeous today.

Lisa Matthews made great use of that sun hat back in June 1991 — and today, too. *fire emoji*
