Jaclyn Hill apology

It goes without saying that Jaclyn Hill had a pretty crappy 2019. What was supposed to be a wonderful first lipstick launch from her brand Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics quickly turned into nothing short of a nightmare, with consumers claiming the lipsticks contained mold, hair, and even glass. The unexpected and reaction felt like watching a train wreck for most, and for Hill, it was no different.

But now, months after Lipstick-Gate and on the heels of an extremely successful highlighter launch, Hill is taking responsibility for not being as accountable as she should have been during the lipstick mess, and it's being well received.

When Lipstick-Gate happened last year, Jaclyn Hill was criticized for her handling of the disastrous first launch for her eponymous brand.

Rather than owning up to the failed release, Hill seemed to want to just stay away from the drama. And while steering clear of a mess is usually a good thing, in this case, Hill's input was expected. She went on a massive blocking spree of anyone who reached out via social asking for a refund or expressing a complaint. "Still absolutely nothing said about the lipsticks," a buyer of the lipsticks tweeted in August. "You could have killed someone yet you refuse to take responsibility. I’ve tried being nice about this but I’m mad. People aren’t getting refunds. You block anyone who mentions it, you are acting childish."

But now she's apologizing and letting fans know that she sees her faults.

In a rather somber video posted on her Instagram, which included clips of her crying, articles chronicling the drama, and being comforted by her boyfriend, Hill wrote a heartfelt caption. "2019 was the hardest year of my life for many reasons. As you guys all witnessed last year, I launched my own cosmetic line, which has been a dream of mine for soooo long! And it was a total flop," she began. "I’ve never felt that kind of humiliation, embarrassment & disappointment in myself before. I totally crumbled. I didn’t know how to address it, I wanted to crawl into a hole & disappear. I’m still ashamed of the way I handled it, but I’m learning! I can’t control the past, but I can be better in the future. Thank you to everyone who has stayed with me for the past year. You are incredible! I can’t wait for you to see what’s in store for 2020!"

The announcement comes not long after Hill told fans she'd been hospitalized not once, but twice this month.

While things surely appear to be looking up, 2020 is proving not to be completely smooth-sailing, but Hill is staying positive. "For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been extremely sick for the past couple weeks," she tweeted earlier this week. "I’ve been in the hospital twice this month. This is NOT the way I wanted to start the new year but I am so thankful that I’m getting better! Thank you for being so patient and kind."

We can't imagine that Lipstick-Gate was easy for Hill, but we're happy she's accepted responsibility, and we're looking forward to 2020 being 20 times better than 2019!
