They say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery — but it seems like Kylie Jenner may have taken that too far. The teenage makeup mogul is being sued by a makeup artist who claims that Kylizzle has been ripping off her original work — and profiting from it — for YEARS.

Last week, makeup artist Vlada Haggerty accused Kylie Cosmetics of stealing her original photos, then recreating them for her own ad campaigns.

"Really @kyliecosmetics? Haven't you gotten enough 'inspiration' from me already?" Vlada wrote, posting the two images side by side. This isn't the first time that Kylie Cosmetics has been "inspired" by Vlada's iconic work — in December of 2015, Kylie posted one of Haggerty's "lip drip" pictures without crediting her, and the brand's drippy lip iconography is VERY similar to many of Haggerty's original pieces.

In other words, Jenner has allegedly been taking cues from Vlada for a LOOOOONG time. And now the indie makeup artist has had enough.

Vlada Haggerty is officially taking Kylie Cosmetics to court.

As reported by The Fashion Law, Vlada is dropping the legal hammer on Kylizzle — and it's serious. In a statement, Haggerty's lawyer Stephen McArthur said:

"Vlada Haggerty is known for pioneering the dripping lip art style. This is the second time that Kylie Cosmetics has taken images without any acknowledgement and without the payment of a proper licensing fee, which amounts to copyright infringement. Additionally, Kylie Cosmetics sells its products under a logo that is so similar to the dripping lip art style that symbolizes Ms. Haggerty’s makeup artist brand that she receives daily inquires as to whether she is associated with Kylie Cosmetics. Theft by big brands like Kylie Cosmetics from original artists without proper licensing and attribution must stop. Due to Kylie Cosmetics’ repeated infringement and refusal to properly attribute or license, we plan to file a lawsuit early this week."

Kylie has not yet commented on the lawsuit — or on how it will affect her upcoming merch line.

Maybe she should update that phone case to say "Vlada Haggerty lips."

What do you think about this lawsuit? Is Kylie in hot legal water?

I personally think that it's very easy for bigger brands to lift ideas from indie artists, and I'm glad to see Vlada — who is very talented — fighting back. Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on Facebook!
