I have dropped it low to review Melissa McCarthy's Seven7 denim before (spoiler: I'm a fan), but she has since expanded her collection. So I called in two co-workers to help me do a Seven7 denim review, part deux.

Here's what happened!

Seven7 carries tops, jacket, dresses, jumpsuits, and more in addition to denim. Sizing goes from 2 to 28.

I decided to try these fun wide leg crop pants in a size 20, which I nabbed on sale for $27!

One of my resolutions this year was to be more adventurous with fashion, so these jeans fit right into that. I tend to fluctuate between a size 18 and 20; since the jeans are cropped and wide leg, I decided to size up. I've found that those cuts can run small on me in the past.

Definitely size up on these if you have a fuller belly.

Usually high-waist jeans are uncomfortable for me, but with these, I had no problem zipping or buttoning and felt totally at ease.

Of course, I dropped it low to see how truly comfortable they were. They passed the test.

With cropped pants, I always fear that they'll sit wrong on my 5'4" frame.

I love the length of these, though. I would wear them with heels, booties, and stilettos. However, if I were taller these would hit closer to mid-calf, so tall girls beware.

Next I tried the girlfriend destructed cuff jean in a size 20; they're currently on sale for $35.

These reminded me of something I would have worn in middle school. I love wearing boyfriend or girlfriend jeans since they are cut more generously than other styles.

I have a rounder, fuller belly, so I filled the jeans up in the top area. They were still comfortable enough for me to bend over and move around, though.

Even though they were comfortable, I wasn't feeling the patchwork design. Hard pass.

Meet my co-worker, Cindy! She's wearing the foil pencil trouser in a size 12. These were $69 on sale and unfortunately only go from a size 4 to 16.

"When I first tried on the metallic pair, I didn't think they would fit. I got them in my usual size 12 but had to put in extra effort to even get them past my calves. As a loyal jeggings girl, I don't know this struggle," said Cindy.

Cindy isn't a fan of jeans in general and these skinny jeans put up a FIGHT!

"I was finally able to button and zip them closed but I skipped the second hidden button on the inside because I found it to be flimsy — and also, by that point, I was just tired. If I were trying these on in a store I would have considered sizing up. However, they began loosening up and molding to my body after a few minutes of wear, leaving me pleasantly surprised. I wouldn’t go for something printed like this, but the experience made me curious about other skinny jeans in the line."

Cindy's next pair was the ombre pencil jean for $63. These might actually make her kick her jeggings to curb.

"This pair was more my style since I'm not really a fan of printed denim. I had the same experience in terms of fit since it was also a skinny jean. However, I felt more confident since I knew they would loosen up. That second button on the inside was still troubling since it barely made it through the initial unbuttoning. But my butt looked amazing, which is always the goal, and I felt a totally superior level of support that I don’t normally get from my jeggings that I didn’t want to let go of. I would totally wear these again."

Cindy is 5'4" and these hit her ankles in just the right spot.

To be honest, I was a little jealous that theses jeans were not available in my size. This style also runs from a 4 to 16.

Finally, Lauren! The first pair she tried on was the lightweight flare jean in an 18. The jeans are currently on sale for $29.40. These jeans only come in size 14 to 28.

Lauren has an hourglass shape, so I thought she would look great in these pair of jeans. Lauren did not agree.

"These jeans were an actual horror show. They technically fit, but sitting down was so uncomfortable, and the length was definitely a problem. The pockets were awkwardly placed towards the from of my stomach, so I kind of felt like a kangaroo with a pouch. Also, you'd DEFINITELY have to wear high-heels, and I personally LOATHE high-heels, so in no universe were these pants going to work for me."

Lauren and I may have not agreed on the style, but one thing is for sure: her butt looks great.

Even at 5'5" and with 4-inch stilettos, the jeans were too long for Lauren.

The next pair Lauren tried on was the skinny roll cuff jean with destruction and lace for $69 in a size 18.

These jeans were a total winner.

"I am such a fan of these jeans! The low-key black sparkle embellishments speak to my glamorous goth heart, and the fit is so snug and smoothing without being restrictive or uncomfortable. I could see myself wearing shirts tucked and untucked in it and my butt felt uplifted and fabulous."

The cuff on these jeans hit the sweet spot for Lauren.

This style is only available in plus-size from a 14 to 28.

PROS

  • Unlike with most plus-size clothing lines, there are SO MANY styles of quality denim to choose from.
  • The size range goes beyond the usual 22/24 to a 28
  • Most jeans tend to have stretch and a contour waistband that acts like more breathable Spanx on your mid-section.

CONS

  • Sizing isn't consistent across different styles. It would be great if ALL were offered in 2 to 28.
  • The designs were a little more mature and lacked the edge that younger women look for.

Have you tried Melissa McCarthy's denim, or any of her other pieces?

Tell us about it in the comments.
