To any Justin Bieber fan who bought tickets to his Purpose national tour hoping to actually physically meet the "Love Yourself" singer, we are so, so very sorry — because as of Wednesday (March 23), the Biebs has canceled his meet and greets. And it's all his fans' fault, because they're just too goddamn happy — and it's bringing him down, man!
"I'm going to be canceling my meet and greets," Bieber wrote on Instagram. "I enjoy meeting such incredible people but
I end up feeling so drained and filled with so much of other people's spiritual energy that I end up so drained and unhappy.. Want to make people smile and happy but not at my expense and I always leave feeling mentally and emotionally exhausted to the point of depression ..
The pressure of meeting people's expectations of what I'm supposed to be is so much for me to handle and a lot on my shoulders."
Huh. On the one hand, I never want to make fun of someone for having mental health issues. On the other, Biebs, your fans shell out an arm and a leg to take one measly photo with you, so maybe with a bit of therapy you could find a way to truly move past this, and hug little girls like this one again?
Also, do we really think that Bieber fans of this magnitude — so, the ones who pay for meet and greets — could ever be disappointed by a meeting with their idol? Maybe if he backhanded them in the face and said their dogs were ugly, but that's literally it. This pressure, it would seem, is all in his head, as is so much of the pressure we all put on ourselves on a daily basis.
So good for you, I guess, Mr. Justin Bieber. I can't say I truly understand the decision, but if it leads to your mental well being AKA fewer thirsty photos of your past with Selena Gomez, I'm on board.
