Justin Bieber just shared in a candid post that he's been suffering from Lyme disease, calling out many of his critics online who have accused him of mental illness and drug addiction.

In the past year, the singer has been in hot water after drama with Taylor Swift, but he also got married and released new music. All in all, it was an eventful time in the young star's life. Rumors swirled that suggested he was addicted to drugs, but now he's opening up about why he was depressed, in a documentary series coming soon on YouTube.

After Bieber revealed he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease, his wife Hailey Bieber (formerly Baldwin) stood up for him on Twitter and clapped back at everyone who had been trolling him.

Bieber got real about his struggles with the illness.

Lyme disease is a treatable sickness that is transmitted through ticks and is often associated with red sores, lack of energy, flu-like symptoms, and neurological problems.

Bieber shared TMZ's coverage on his Instagram and wrote, "While a lot of people kept saying justin Bieber looks like [redacted], on meth etc. they failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health."

Then, he announced his upcoming documentary series that is coming soon to YouTube. Plus, he wrote that he plans on coming back stronger than ever.

"These things will be explained further in a docu series I'm putting on YouTube shortly.. you can learn all that I've been battling and OVERCOMING!! It's been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever NO CAP."

Many people commented on Bieber's skin and said that he looked like he was on drugs.

Before Bieber revealed he was struggling with Lyme, people had been attacking his appearance. The bullying got so bad that many people stuck up for him on Twitter after his Instagram post.

"Y’all really bullied Justin over his skin being bad and saying he looked like he was back on drugs and so much sh*t yet he was SICK that’s also the reason he kept postponing his album wow y’all really jsut love bullying Justin for being Justin Bieber," one person wrote.

Hailey Bieber was not going to stand for any of the hate.

Even after Bieber opened up, people still downplayed his diagnosis and thought it was to cover up for his drug addiction. "For those who are trying to downplay the severity of Lyme disease. Please do your research and listen to the stories of people who have suffered with it for years. Making fun of and belittling a disease you don’t understand is never the way, all it takes is educating yourself," Hailey tweeted.

Then, she thanked the Hadid family, who have been extremely supportive.

Gigi and Bella Hadid's mom, Yolanda Hadid of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, has also had an ongoing battle with Lyme disease. So they've been providing support to the young newlyweds. Thankfully, this disease is treatable, and Bieber has obviously been going to different health institutions. He's been spotted by paparazzi at hospitals, but some thought it was for drug abuse.

Plus, Bieber thanked Avril Lavigne, who also struggles with the disease.

Lavigne has been an advocate for raising awareness and educating people on Lyme disease. So, of course, Bieber had to give her a shout-out as well. Lavigne showed her gratitude and support in a reply.

"Thank you @HaileyBieber for your kind words. So sorry to hear about @justinbieber having to go through this awful disease. The fact that it’s hard to diagnose and is so debilitating was something I suffered through also," Lavigne tweeted. She continued, "which is why I’ve put so much of my time, energy and effort into educating and helping others though @avrilfoundation to keep their #HeadAboveWater. As you know, Lyme is a global pandemic but not a global priority..let’s change that together!!!"
