If there's one thing that the Kardashians know how to do, it's throw a party. Whether it's for a birthday, a baby shower, or a brand release, we can count on the the family to do it big. However, while their bashes are usually well-received, Kim Kardashian's recent 40th birthday trip is anything but.

Many feel like the trip during COVID-19 was completely tone-deaf, and now Kardashians is being torn to shreds all over social media. See the tweet that ignited it all ahead.

It all started with a simple thread chronicling Kardashian's 40th bash which appeared to be at a tropical location.

"40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter."

She said that she decided to spend her time surrounded by friends and family.

"For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today."

She said that the lifestyle changes associated with COVID-19 have put things into perspective for her.

"Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment."

Then came the kicker, the tweet that sent social media into a frenzy.

"After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time."

She went on to say that the trip reminded her of how privileged she is, but it didn't seem to be of any solace.

"We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40"

Needless to say, the display of wealth during such difficult times for most people hasn't been received well.

"I’m glad so many people are dunking on Kim Kardashian because it’s showing that the tide has turned against obscene wealth. I still remember the days when celebrities flashing their 50 luxury cars & houses was seen as aspirational. Now it’s disgusting."

It's feeling like a slap in the face to many Twitter users.

"Hi Poors! I know you're hurting right now and can't figure out how you're going to feed your family, but please enjoy these photos of my family's expensive vacation! I know I'm lucky to be so fabulously wealthy so I'll make mention of it to sound sympathetic (I'm really not tho)."

And many felt the need to remind Kardashian of the realities of the pandemic for those who are not wealthy.

"I couldn’t visit my grandpa when he was in the hospital with heart failure for three weeks in March. We canceled our august wedding and our November honeymoon. I have hugged my mom once in 8 months. This is beyond privilege, this is disgusting."
