While Americans were asleep during the early hours of Monday, major news broke across the pond: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged!
The couple dated for more than a year, quietly becoming engaged sometime earlier this year.
Prince Harry and Markle finally announced their engagement on Monday in an official statement.
The wedding is set to take place in spring 2018 — and "commoners" on Twitter are already pining for their invite.
Unfortunately, Prince Harry's and Markle's relationship has been the subject of intense media scrutiny — and most of the hate stems from the fact that Markle is an American actress whose mother is Black and whose father is white.
The harassment got *so* bad that Prince Harry had to publicly denounce the "racial undertones" coming from trolls and professional journalists alike.
However, Markle never let racists dull her shine. (A true princess, indeed.)
The late Princess Diana would certainly approve.
Congrats, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle! The royal family just got a little bigger.
