Sarah Hyland doesn't hold back. Whether it's fighting back against body shamers and slut shamers (especially when it comes to  defending her onscreen sister Ariel Winter) or sharing her health battles, she's always honest with her fans, even when it's about a painful subject.

One of the biggest things Hyland has repeatedly brought up is her kidney transplant as a result of kydney displasia, and how it affected her life after the fact. Her refreshing realness has definitely struck a chord with fans, too. Here are some of her most honest quotes about having an invisible illness:

Hyland revealed in a 2012 interview with Seventeen that her father gave her his kidney.

"You know that family is going to be there for you no matter what," she told the magazine. "My dad gave me a freakin' kidney!"

Hyland also revealed in 2017 that she's on life-saving medications due to a challenging year, health-wise.

She chose to come forward after being body shamed.

Hyland's beauty routine was affected by the medications she has to take.

She revealed in an Instagram story that she takes prednisone, a drug which helps keep a transplanted kidney from being rejected. The drug can cause swelling or "moon face," and facial rollers (like the one Hyland is using) can help prevent some swelling.

She's also sounded off at CVS for closing before she had a chance to pick up her medication.

When other publications accused her of getting plastic surgery, she clapped back to remind them that it couldn't be further from the truth.

She reminded her followers that her face has been "altered by some LIFE SAVING medication."

Hyland slammed doctors who didn't take her chronic illness seriously.

Hyland's candidness is helping so many others with invisible illnesses.
