While many celebrities are presumably nursing a hangover following late night, post-VMAs festivities (see: Rihanna), Taylor Swift was spotted bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Monday morning (August 29) — at jury duty.

Yes, you read that right. Jury duty. Because being a 10-time Grammy winner does not excuse one from civic duty, apparently.

Swift reported for jury duty at a Nashville court Monday, and her outfit looks weirdly tailored to the occasion.

Is it just me, or does that top/dress/whatever look slightly reminiscent of a prison uniform? That, or those robes they make you wear when you get your hair cut.

She did her civic duty — by taking plenty of selfies with her fellow jurors.

Even as she's having a little fun with fellow potential jurors, the case they are being considered for is quite serious: It reportedly involves charges of aggravated rape, aggravated kidnaping, and domestic assault.

Nashville's WSMV-TV station reported that Swift is in a group of four women being questioned by attorneys as a prospective juror, and that during questioning, Swift said she believes possible rapes should be prosecuted and that she would be a fair and impartial juror. She also allegedly referenced her own civil sexual assault case, against former radio host David Mueller whom she claims groped her at a 2013 meet-and-greet.

Can you IMAGINE being put in jail by Taylor Swift?

I'm sure everyone in that courtroom and their grandmother (should Swift be chosen) is going to be asking her for a selfie.

The timing of her jury summons is interesting, as it coincidentally plays to her ~super relatable, normal human~ appeal that Kimye majorly undermined.

All I'm saying is, I'm sure T-Swift's PR squad isn't displeased that to some, it now looks like Swift missed the VMAs because she's a good, responsible citizen. When, in reality, she just wasn't nominated for anything.

Well played, Swift squad. Well played.

(This is a joke. Obviously Swift is just doing her legal duty here, and the timing IS a coincidence. But any chance to hint at a conspiracy theory is a chance that I will take.)
