It's tragic to hear stories of those in the LGBTQ+ community who are never able to fully live their truth, isolated by their families, not accepted by friends, forced to conceal who they truly are. Super parents Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are working their hardest to make sure that situations like that occur less and less. Today, the proud parents of a transgender young lady named Zaya proudly proclaimed their acceptance and love for their child, publicly calling for others to be more tolerant and accepting of their children.

Cue the tears.

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union have long been praised for the way they raise their children.

It's no question that the couple are unwavering supporters of the LBTQ+ community, embracing their former son Zion publicly, and defending the teen when critics judged the 12-year-old for outfit choices.

"I’ve seen some post-Thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo," Wade tweeted in response to critics following a post showing the teenager donning heels and acrylic nails. "Stupidity is a part of this world we live in—so I get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!"

But now Zion will now go by Zaya.

Today, Wade revealed on The Ellen Show that the formerly named Zion will now go by Zaya, who will identify as a young woman. “Once, Zaya...first, Zion ... Zion, born as a boy, came home and said, ‘Hey, so I want to talk to you guys. I think going forward, I’m ready to live my truth. And I want to be referenced as she and her," he shared.

Union made the formal introduction on her Twitter page.

Accompanied by a powerful video showing Zaya chatting with her dad about the importance of being yourself, Union spoke on the importance of parents accepting their children. "Meet Zaya," she wrote. "She's compassionate, loving, whip smart and we are so proud of her. It’s Ok to listen to, love & respect your children exactly as they are. Love and light good people."

And as expected, the support for the family has been immense.

Celebrities and everyday people alike are sharing in the excitement of the Wade family, praising the couple for their tolerance and understanding of their daughter's decision. "Huge huge huge THANK YOU to everyone whose dms I slid into, friends, & family who provided information, resources, love & encouragement," Union said. "We are humble LGBTQ+ allies with ALOT to learn & grateful for all the support. We encourage yall to check us as needed."

Clearly the parents of the year award belongs to these two. They continue to use their platforms to be examples of what can happen when you raise your children to love and accept themselves, no matter what others may think.
