It's been approximately one day since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement, and commoners are approximately three to five months away from watching the big wedding from the comfort of their palace (er, home).

But that hasn't stopped Twitter from *already* getting excited about Markle joining the royal family.

Sadly, Markle and Prince Harry have had to overcome significant racial barriers throughout their entire relationship.

When Markle first started dating Prince Harry, she was immediately subjected to intense media scrutiny. Most of the criticism stemmed from the fact that Markle is a divorced American actress with a Black mother and a white father.

The harassment got so bad that Prince Harry had to publicly denounce the "racial undertones" coming from trolls and professional journalists alike.

"It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm,"an official statement from the the Kensington Palace read. "This is not a game — it is her life and his.”

But Markle got the ring *and* the last laugh.

Black Twitter is already prepared to defend Markle against the racism.

Markle is a future duchess who *also* happens to be a divorced, biracial, American woman.

(Otherwise known as Twitter's very own Black princess.)

It's a big deal, OK?

So congrats, Markle and Prince Harry! Twitter is pumped for your upcoming wedding.
