As Halloween creeps closer, the makeup looks inspired by the holiday are only getting better and better. This latest honeycomb face was inspired by the "American Horror Story" show's promo imagery and it just might top all of the makeup looks I've seen so far this year.
The tutorial, hosted by special effects brand, Ellimacs SFX, began with the model creating a honeycomb mold by mixing liquid latex and flour.
The liquid latex and flour came together to create a clay-like substance that the model placed on a face cast — "but creating it on a flat surface should do the trick as well," according to the tutorial host.
While the honeycomb dried, the artist focused on creating the bees.
The body of each bee was made with black and gold Ellimorph plastic for the bodies, clear plastic for the wings, and paint to create those signature stripes.
Next, the model returned to the cast after it dried to create the honeycomb indentions.
She created a tool using more Ellimorph plastic that she molded to get the perfect shape, but you could also go the simple route and use the eraser end of a pencil.
The trick to making the honeycomb look as real as possible was painting it in multiple colors — yellow, orange, and a deep brown in the center of the holes to give it depth.
After placing the honeycomb onto her face with skin adhesive, she used flesh-toned soft putty to "fade" the edges into her actual skin, then created more holes with the end of her makeup brushes.
After glamming up the rest of her look with lipstick and wicked cute eye art...
She added bees and "honey," which is really just hair gel and yellow food coloring!
And the final result is this frighteningly sweet American Horror Story look.
This is absolutely amazing and I am unable to can and I would totally be this for Halloween if it didn't scare the sweet hell out of me.
But again, AMAZING.
