Kat Von D can truly do it all — she's a beauty brand owner, artist, musician, singer, shoe designer, and noted goth gardener.

But one of the most important things about Kat Von D? She's a champion for animal rights.

Everything about Kat — from the clothes she wears to the artists she works with — is ALL about ending cruelty to animals. From veganism and cruelty-free cosmetics to pet adoption and ethical sourcing, Von D has dedicated her life to speaking up for creatures who can't speak for themselves.

Here are 27 times Kat Von D stood up POWERFULLY for animals in 2017.

She worked around the clock to make her ENTIRE brand vegan.

Though KVD Beauty is already cruelty free, Kat has said that her entire brand will also be 100% vegan VERY soon. Existing products are being reformulated, new things are being created, and there will be more vegan makeup magic in 2018.

And was tireless in her quest to create the PERFECT set of vegan makeup brushes.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

Makeup brushes don't need to use fur or animal products to be quality. "So excited about launching an entire #crueltyfree and #vegan line of makeup brushes for @katvondbeauty! I've teamed up with my #KvDArtistryCollective artists to create the most effective brush formations, using the highest grade synthetic fibers that mimic the same product distribution you would get from animal-based bristles. We are living in amazing times right now where technology is making it so easy to make compassionate choices in the products we purchase, without having to exploit animals."

She used lipstick to save the lives of former farm animals.

This collection of four liquid lipsticks ($20, Kat Von D Beauty) aren't just gorgeous, they also benefit Farm Sanctuary, an animal rescue, education, and advocacy organization. 20% of the sale of all four shades — each named after a rescued animal, BTW — goes directly to Farm Sanctuary to help end animal suffering. THAT'S putting your money where your mouth it.

And changed the lives of chimpanzees.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

Through the sales of the Project Chimps lipstick, KVD Beauty raise $256,000 for Project Chimps, an organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and long-term care of "retired" laboratory chimps.

She made Circle V Fest even MORE beautiful, and not just with her makeup.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

Kat Von D Beauty was allllll over this year's Circle V Fest, a music, food, and merch festival dedicated to celebrating animal rights. Kat was also a speaker at the event, which drew thousands and thousands of people committed to a better future for animals.

She talked honestly about how awesome pet adoption is.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

"Nietzsche waits outside my shower like a little gentleman, and then demands at least 5 kisses. #crazycatlady #forever #bestadoptionever #pleaseadoptdontshop."

And she told the stories of adopted animals through tattoos.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

"Had the pleasure of tattooing this portrait of Alex's sweet pet-companion, Achilles!" Kat wrote. "Can you believe someone abandoned this sweet baby and left him out to die?! When Alex found him outside his work, he was barely about a year old, malnourished and covered in deer ticks. Now, Achilles is such happy, healthy and definitely a ladies-man with that floppy ear! Thank you, Alex, for sharing your story w me, letting me tattoo you, and for giving this beautiful creature an amazing life."

She celebrated Gucci for going fur-free...

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

"Round of applause to @gucci for announcing that they are officially no longer using fur, starting Spring/Summer 2018!" she wrote. "For a brand at this level to make such big changes speaks volumes, and I'm so fucking excited to see other designers follow suit! An extra big hug to all of my friends+followers who boycott purchasing fur - because as we all know, the power has always been in the people. What we choose to spend our money on directly dictates what products are produced - and bottom line is: cruelty is NEVER in fashion."

...and roasted NARS Cosmetics over the brand's decision to test on animals.

A post shared by @narsissist on

"I was so sad to hear this news because for years I've supported NARS beauty products because they were one of the few artistry brands that didn't test on animals, and now I am so confused/heartbroken that after all these years they would choose a paycheck over compassion," Kat wrote, when news broke that NARS Cosmetics would begin selling in China — and therefore start testing products on animals. "Using the excuse that you want to elevate artistry, is complete bullshit when it comes at this price. You are NOT at the "forefront" of making change when you consciously choose to test on animals. There are already non-animal tests that give far more accurate results than testing on animals and supporting that horrible billion dollar industry is criminal. Shame on you for hiding behind such a false marketing statement in order to line your pockets, while countless animals suffer.

Please reconsider selling in China until the animal testing laws change. Until then, I along with many true animal lovers will gladly boycott your products."

Though she never intends to shock, Von D doesn't shy away from keeping it all the way real about the realities of animal testing.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

Kat confronts her followers with real images of what cosmetic testing on animals can look like. "When we buy products from a company that tests on animals, we are voting for cruelty," she says. "And no lipstick or eyeshadow is worth this."

She also lifted up OTHER vegan brands throughout 2017 — because she knows that animal activism is always more effective when people collaborate.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

"Big shout out to one of my fave #vegan makeup brands Black Moon Cosmetics for making true #crueltyfree lashes that are actually comfortable to wear! ???????? [ these lashes are called "Sagittarius," and I've paired them up with my @katvondbeauty Shade+Light eye contour quad in "Plum" and Tattoo Liner in "Trooper" black]"

Kat always shouts out vegan shoe designer Natacha Marro — both for her epic designs, and her commitment to that cruelty-free life.

Because fashion and kindness don't have to be mutually exclusive.

And so many of the things she wears make people consider their choices, and how they affect the animals around them.

Dig the "Animal equality" tote bag.

Even her HEADPHONES are cruelty free.

They're from Klipsch Audio, btw.

And this vegan leather jacket is exactly as badass as the animal-derived version.

Let's not forget when she announced plans to take over the fashion game herself with a line of 100% vegan, ethical shoes.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

"For all those asking, here's the low down on my upcoming shoe line:

•aiming to launch VonD shoes early 2018
•yes, I'll be making sizes ranging from 5-12
•yes, I'll be including several unisex designs for all my homeboys [including sneakers, combat boots, slip ons + creepers]
•yes, VonD shoes will be sold/shipped internationally
•yes, I'm making flats, too!
•no, VonD shoes will not be made up of any animal-harming material [this includes sourcing out substitutes for leather, reptile, wool, silk, fur, feathers, and animal based adhesives.
•yes, we have ethically sourced synthetic/organic/recycled materials, and I'm excited to share with you some of these innovative fabrics that are gonna blow your mind!
•pricing: as always, I aim to make #crueltyfree + #vegan products that are accessible + affordable. With that said, these shoes are not made in China, and instead are handcrafted by artisan manufacturers. Made with love + care here in Italy. So no, they ain't gonna be as cheap as Payless Shoes, but they aren't gonna be Rodeo Drive prices either."

Or when she politely directed her vegan followers to books about communication — and compassion.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

"In my own humble opinion, I think there are a lot of well-intentioned vegans out there who, without knowing it, end up pushing people away from the cause, simply by how they communicate. I remember back when I was NOT a vegan, and how turned off I'd get by the overbearing vegan - even though I'm sure a part of what they were preaching made some sense to me. This book is really helping me understand how much more effective I could be if I took some of these ideas into consideration."

She never turned down an opportunity to speak out about animal rights in 2017 — not once.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

She was presented with an award from Farm USA, honored her work for animal advocacy and community building.

And she didn't even hesitate to tell her millions of followers to buy tickets to Animal Equality's annual gala.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

Even at her brands' many launch events in 2017, Kat will keep it ALL THE WAY REAL if people ask her about animal rights.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

But she didn't shy away from direct action, either. KVD is NOT all talk.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

"Gonna go find some stop signs now," she wrote.

In 2017, Von D doubled down on making sure the people in her life personally put her causes over her. And that's a beautiful thing.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

She asked her friends to donate to Farm Sanctuary instead of getting her presents for her birthday.

Before prepping for IMATS — one of the biggest, busiest days on the beauty calendar — Kat and her team went to volunteer at Farm Sanctuary.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

And awesomeness runs in her family — Kat's dad is also vegan.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

Kat is a true champion for animal rights, leading her fans by example, and also showing other brands that yeah, you CAN be ethical and successful at the same time.

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

2017 was truly a magical year for Kat — we cant wait to see all the ways she champions animal rights in 2018!

A post shared by Kat Von D (@thekatvond) on

She should also hang out with more live wolves, because that's badass.
