There are only two months to go until "Suicide Squad" rampages into theaters, and tensions are high. After all, regardless of what you thought of "Batman v Superman" as a movie, it certainly wasn't the box office draw Warner Bros. was expecting, and caused a lot of internal shake-ups and structural reorganizations within the studio.
So it's clear the DC Cinematic Universe needs a win on their hands, and luckily they have an ace up their sleeve: Harley Quinn, one of the most popular and well-known characters in the DC universe. All of the "Suicide Squad" trailers have featured her front and center (more so than any other female character in a superhero ensemble movie has even been featured, in fact), and there are already plans for a possible spin-off movie in the works.
Judging by what the audiences of two different test screenings in California have said on social media so far, you probably don't have to worry too much about Quinn as a character: the early reactions are mostly pretty positive. Of course, the test screenings for "Batman v Superman" reportedly ended with standing ovations, so take from that what you will — but at the very least, what everyone can agree on is that Harley definitely steals the spotlight. Here's a small sampling of what people are saying:
Not everything was perfect, but that's okay!
“This is an unfinished cut. There was lots that I really liked, good action, pacing (for the most part)," said reddit user Soyodu, noting that not all of the characters resonated with him.
"Walking out, I’ve heard a few people raving about it, and a few just good/pretty good. The person I was sitting next to came with his family and he didn’t even know the movie after they announced it (older guy) and he said it was OK. I didn’t stick around to hear if anyone had anything bad to say.”
Harley's "a star and everyone will love her."
"It's an excellent movie. It tells a very straightforward story with an amazing cast," Comicbook.com reports Reddit user Malachim as saying (the post has since been deleted). "You will like every single member of the Squad, with Harley (obviously) stealing the show. She's a star and everyone will love her. This is the type of movie that demands a sequel."
"I'm sure critics will find ways to hate it," they add. "But DC fans will like it. The BIG thing is that the movie literally saves DCEU Batman. This Batman is ["Batman: The Animated Series"] personified."
