Robert Pattinson is playing Batman in Matt Reeves' film

As if there weren't enough Batman movies out there, it's time for one more. And, honestly, I'm not complaining.

Robert Pattinson, aka the former Twilight hunky vampire and indie film veteran, is stepping into the world of superheroes, but it's looking much darker than the Marvel movies. This is more along the lines of Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, and based on this first look, things get moody.

Director Matt Reeves shared to his Twitter the first camera test of Pattinson dressed in the full costume, and according to a previous post, filming has already begun. Zoë Kravitz will be starring alongside Pattinson in the film as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman.

Director Matt Reeves shared the first look on his Twitter.

Set to the ominous soundtrack composed by Michael Giacchino, Pattinson poses in the iconic batsuit. The logo is chiseled into the front of the suit, and his mask covers any trace of his eyes, but that jawline is unmistakable. Even under the dark red lighting, I could pick out Pattinson anywhere.

First day of filming began on January 27, so we most likely won't see anything official for another few months.

This first taste comes less than a month after filming began. Elle reports that the film is set to hit theaters sometime in 2021, and as of now, the official release date is June 25, 2021. Reeves tweeted in January that Colin Farrell would be joining the cast as the villain Penguin.

Zoë Kravitz will be playing Catwoman in the film.

Kravitz voiced the iconic role in The Lego Batman Movie, and now she'll be taking it on in the live-action version. The casting comes after she was once denied the role for being too "urban," according to a Nylon interview.  Other cast members include Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone.

We could stand to sit through two hours of this.

"Honestly won’t be mad if the movie is just two hours of this," DC Comics' Twitter account replied. The sexy, moody visual is telling of what this adaptation might be like. Pattinson has described Batman as the only superhero he ever identified with.

Robert Pattinson talked with Variety about his role in the new Batman film.

At the time of this interview, Pattinson was more focused on his role in the bizarre drama The Lighthouse starring alongside Willem Dafoe, but even then his excitement for the role was palpable. He also spoke with Jennifer Lopez in an actors-on-actors interview about the significance of acting in a franchise, something Pattinson already knows well.

In 2008, the first Twilight film came out, and Pattinson became a major star. Now he's entering into another, arguably bigger, franchise.
