Ariana Grande is showing off a new version of her iconic ponytail on social media, and it has fans talking. Everything about the pictures she recently posted has them convinced she's working on the music video for her new song "NASA."

A few details fans are taking as hints? The background of her photos looks an awful lot like a video set; her hair has eight bubbles (the number of planets in the solar system); there's a sneaky "NASA" reference in her music video for "7 Rings"... the list goes on.

What more proof do you need? Ari claims she's not working on the music video for "NASA," but her Sweetener World Tour is coming up soon — maybe that's what this new 'do is for.

Ariana Grande just revealed a new take on her classic high ponytail.

Grande is known for her sleek ponytail above most other things, and it looks like she has new plans in the works, because she recently traded in her signature look for a bubbly one. In new Instagram shots, she has a massive, bubbles 'tail with bright highlights — all topped off with a giant black bow. Fans think they know the reason behind the new look.

Fans think that Grande is filming the music video for "NASA" due to this space-age hairstyle.

Let's break down the evidence: Just a chance look at Grande's recent Instagram posts will have you noticing her recent space motif, rocket emojis included.

In one post, Grande pleads for more space emojis to be added to the iPhone mix. Hmmm ...

I guess your iPhone can never have too many space emojis. Grande is requesting that Apple release some more planetary ones: "I would very much enjoy some more planet emojis next update please. I could really use a jupiter a neptune and a saturn," she wrote.

Some Instagram users are connecting the dots between her hair and the solar system itself.

It sounds like a bit of a reach, honestly, but you know. The theory suggests that there is a connection between the eight bubbles in the ponytail and the eight planets of the solar system (sorry, Pluto). Everything here is just screaming that a "NASA" music video is in the works.

She does look like she's on some kind of set in recent photos.

If you look closely at each of these new shots of her, it looks like Grande is getting ready for something. There's a rack of clothes behind her in one video she posted. And in those shots of her sitting, there's what looks to be a makeup station in the foreground. There are a few bottles and jars in view, which may not be makeup, but there are makeup brushes in the corner.

Grande even made a sneaky reference to "NASA" in her music video for "7 Rings."

This fan pointed out that Grande teased the song "7 Rings" in her music video for "Thank U, Next." Shortly after, we found out that "7 Rings" was the next single off of her latest album. Now that the "7 Rings" video has been released, you can see the word "NASA" on the side of the pink car in the video.

Unfortunately, this pattern didn't work out the second time. "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" ended up being the follow-up single. But fans think that means "NASA" will definitely be the next single from the album.

Grande did say the song "NASA" does have some space elements to it, even though it is about a man (*cough* Pete Davidson *cough*).

Grande tweeted back to some fans who were curious about the meaning of the song for confirmation. And the song does start out with a play on space-related words. It starts out with a voice saying, "One small step for woman, one giant leap for womankind."

The song is about needing "space" and "me time" in a relationship. She refers to herself as the universe and likens the man in question to NASA.

But it doesn't look like this theory is going to pan out.

After Grande showed off her new look, a fan asked if it was because she was filming the "NASA" video. Unfortunately for fans, Grande said no. But fans are still curious to see what's in store. They do have a whole tour to look forward to.

The actual NASA even got excited about the rumors for a minute — but, uh, not for the same reason.

The actual National Aeronautics and Space Agency tweeted because they saw "NASA" was trending on Twitter a few weeks back. The agency said they thought the surge in popularity was because of something they had discovered. But they didn't seem to mind the attention not being on them.

"Hey @Ariana Grande, we saw 'NASA' trending this morning and thought it was about one of our new discoveries. But we realized that you might need some space. It’s like you’re the universe and we’re N-A-S-A," it shared.

Grande has been working on stuff for her Sweetener World Tour.

Grande tweeted to her fans on February 24 that she's grateful and excited for her upcoming world tour. It starts next month on the 18 in Albany, New York. Her new look could be a part of that preparation. You never know, you might be seeing Grade's luxurious new ponytail IRL soon!
