Today — January 19 — is a blessed day: country superstar Dolly Parton turns 71.
Not only is Dolly an incredible singer, songwriter, and actress, she's also a hair expert.
Dolly has never been shy about her fierce hair game. She shamelessly made it known that her famous platinum blonde mane is actually the result of wigs — and Dolly has spent decades teasing them to perfection.
“I used to try to keep my own hair teased as big as I like it, and having the bleach and all of that, it just broke off,” she revealed on "Home & Family" last year. “I thought, ‘Why am I going through all that? Why don’t I just wear wigs? That way, I never have a bad hair day!"
She paused before adding, "I have a big hair day, but not a bad hair day.”
(Can you say I-C-O-N-I-C?)
In honor of Dolly's birthday, here are 10 amazing, sky-high hairstyles that Dolly Parton has rocked throughout the years.
The singer posed for this portrait in 1965.
And her hair took up half the frame!
In 1976, Dolly was all about the big hair and the side-eye.
The bolder, the better.
Most women sought long, straight hair in 1977 — but Dolly challenged the trend with her larger-than-life ringlets.
"I'm not going to limit myself just because people won't accept the fact that I can do something else," she famously stated.
Dolly went with a shorter length in 1978, but kept *all* the volume.
Dolly and her cute "9 to 5" curls continued to take over Hollywood throughout the '80s.
By 1992, Dolly Parton was associated with all things blonde and fabulous.
But don't try to use Dolly's hair color against her:
"I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb," she insisted. "And I also know that I'm not blonde."
