No matter what the outcome of the 2016 presidential election is, despite the strong possibility Donald Trump will be president, it will forever be a scar on the face of this nation. This election, and tonight especially, has exposed a seedy, misogynistic, and above all racist America that many are having trouble identifying with — or even putting into words.
Ladies and gentlemen, allow CNN Journalist Van Jones to break it down for you.
"We have people putting children to bed tonight and they're afraid of breakfast. They're afraid of, 'how do I explain this to my children.' I have Muslim friends... 'do i leave the country.' i have family of immigrants that are terrified tonight," he said.
"It was something else. We talked about income, class elites. We haven't talked about race. This was a white-lash against a changing country. It was a white lash against a black president, in part. And that's the part where the pain comes."
His emotional plea for parents and eloquent break down highlighted that racism for POC, from Black Americans to Muslim ones, is a reality that a potential President Trump will have a responsibility to comfort and represent.
"Donald Trump has a responsibility tonight to come out and reassure people that he is going to be president of all the people he insulted and offended and brushed aside."
And tonight, people are so thankful for Jones' words when they couldn't find their own.
