Ten years ago, Dan Clay was a college student watching "Sex and the City" at his frat house in secret.
"Girls would come over and watch 'Sex and the City' on Sundays, and I would pretend that I hated it because I didn’t want to give myself away,” the New York-based consultant revealed on Instagram before adding, "Well, the secret’s out."
Now 32 years old and openly gay, Clay has very publicly taken on a new persona: Carrie Dragshaw, Carrie Bradshaw's modern-day (but equally fabulous) male twin.
"Carrie Dragshaw" was first discovered by a major "Sex and the City" fan page on Instagram, who reposted this photo of Clay dressed in his Carrie-inspired Halloween costume.
The account @sexandthecityquotes included this photo of Clay dressed as Carrie for its "Best SATC Costumes" lineup.
Clay began recreating Carrie's most iconic looks, outfit by outfit.
Before making his Instagram page public, Clay had only 900 followers; now, he's amassed nearly 15,000 fans.
Because Clay lives only a few blocks from Carrie's famous West Village apartment, he uses his neighborhood as the backdrop for many of his looks.
And the pressure is on to nail every little detail: "I'm watching 'Sex and the City' the way people read James Joyce," Clay told Cosmopolitan.com.
He doesn't have any intentions of quitting his "Miranda-like day job," but Clay promises Carrie Dragshaw is definitely here to stay.
Clay said he plans to take his newfound fame "one heel step at a time."
And those heels are presumably Manolos.
