Hi, I'm Ileana, and I'm pale AF. People have told me my skin looks translucent. I'm not joking. And I'll let you in on a little secret: I have always hated sunscreen. I hate the scent, I hate the oily feel, I hate that it stains my clothes, I hate it all. Of course, I care about my skin health, so I still wear sunscreen all the time. And while I've found some body sunscreens I don't mind wearing when I'm at the beach (hello Hawaiian Tropic SPF 50), I can't stand wearing greasy, smelly sunscreen on my face every single day.

A few years ago, I realized I should start looking for a facial sunscreen I actually like, or at least don't actively hate. I did my research to find out the best reviewed daily facial sunscreens, then started placing orders. After testing out a variety of sunscreens — from drugstore to high end — I was SO disappointed. Even the sunscreens that boasted claims like "oil-free" and "light scent" left me feeling like a greasy sunscreen-covered child at the beach. I thought I was destined to wear smelly, greasy sunscreen every day for the rest of time.

Now that I've been on the hunt for a great facial sunscreen for a few years, I've finally found a few that I actually like. I know, I thought it was impossible. One of my new favorites? Theraderm's Platinum Protection Facial Sunscreen.

A few weeks ago, Theraderm sent me a bottle of their Platinum Protection Facial Sunscreen in PR. The website's description says: "Protect your face from the sun and still wear your makeup at the same time without pilling, beading, stinging eyes or running makeup with this oil-free facial sunscreen. SPF 43, broad-spectrum UV protection helps keep you safe from skin-aging UVA rays and skin-damaging, cancer-causing UVB rays."

At $31 for 3 fluid ounces, this sunscreen is actually less expensive than many other high-end facial sunscreens (and 3 ounces goes a long way when it comes to facial sunscreen).

The website also makes a lot of claims about the sunscreen: "SPF 43, UVA/UVB protection, Oil-free formula designed to not clog pores, Lightweight and formulated to work well under makeup, Fast absorbing, designed to leave no white sheen, Formulated to not burn or irritate eyes."

Although I was excited to try the sunscreen, I won't lie, I was skeptical. I've tried so many sunscreens that claim they're lightweight, oil-free, fast-absorbing, etc. and I've almost always been disappointed.

On the day I decided to try the Platinum Protection Facial Sunscreen, I knew I'd have to spend some time outside, since I was planning on going to Trader Joe's (and in NYC, the line is always out the door). I figured it would be a perfect time to test out this new sunscreen. When I squeezed it onto my fingers, I immediately noticed that it didn't have a strong scent — thank goodness! I placed dots of sunscreen around my face and began to rub it in. I had two main concerns as I started to massage the sunscreen into my skin: white cast and greasiness.

Once the sunscreen was fully absorbed, I was pleasantly surprised that there was no white cast or greasiness! My skin actually looked pretty matte. As I was rubbing it in, I noticed the faint scent, but once it sank into my skin, the scent totally disappeared. While a lot of sunscreens feel like they just sit on top of your skin, this felt like it really melted in — and my skin really felt like normal skin afterwards! The final test? Wearing the sunscreen outside to make sure it was effective (and didn't melt off in the heat).

Although a lot of my face was covered, the part of my face that normally gets burned — my forehead — was out in full sunlight. When I finally got home, I checked my skin, and not only was I completely sunburn-free, I didn't feel greasy or like the sunscreen was melting off of me!

Overall, the Theraderm Platinum Protection Facial Sunscreen test was a complete success. I was so impressed with the zinc-based sunscreen, and I would absolutely pay the price. Want to try it for yourself? You can get it at Theraderm.net for $31 or Amazon for $33.
