I don't think I'll ever forget my first pair of grown-up heels. Not the ones that your mom gets you as a preteen with that 2-inch height, no. I'm talking about that first pair of heels that truly make you feel like a woman. They were so cute: nude, with the edgiest ankle strap I think I still have ever seen. In fact, I even remember the brand. They were Jessica Simpson, and I was all of 15 years old. I felt like hot stuff the day I thought it would be a good idea to wear said heels to school. Needless to say, I was tripping (no pun, both literally and metaphorically).
Anyway, the first hour seemed like it would be a pretty easy day, until it wasn't anymore. Suddenly my feet were pounding, and I was forced to kick the heels off during every class. By fifth period, I was walking down the long hallways looking utterly insane. My friends had begun to question my judgment, and I was verging on the point of calling my mom to bring me some flats (because I should have already had some in my bag).
Even though I went home with swollen feet and a bruised ego, that experience taught me a very important lesson: If I'm going to continue wearing heels, I need to make sure I'm comfortable. And lucky for me, the team here at Revelist has made that a reality. Check out Kala Riggins presenting some high-heel hacks that everyone should know.
