Finally, a spot of brightness in an otherwise nightmarish month: our queen, Ashley Graham, has landed her very first Vogue cover.
And it. Is. AMAZING.
Ashley looks STUNNING on the cover of Vogue UK's January 2017 issue — and that's not even the coolest part.
Yes, she looks absolutely stunning in that minimal makeup. Yes, I desperately want that jacket. But most importantly, SHE IS THE FIRST PLUS-SIZE MODEL IN BRITISH VOGUE'S HISTORY TO EVER APPEAR ON THE COVER.
This is such a major moment for plus size representation in fashion and in media — and I am so happy that UK Vogue did it justice with this simple, gorgeous cover shot. Ashley looks like ASHLEY, not like a super-cropped, overly Photoshopped version of herself. The Vogue team did good.
Ashley is no stranger to breaking major body pos barriers. She was also the first plus-size model to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition.
Graham has always said that her career is about more than looking fire in bikinis — it's about providing a positive role model for young girls.
"Girls who are insecure about their bodies, girls who feel fat, girls who have cellulite, girls who have stretch marks on their body — those are all the things that I had as a kid and I never had a woman like me growing up to look at. I had my mother and that’s one thing, but to have somebody who has cellulite, who has things that jiggle, who has back fat and talk about how you can be an overcomer and not let society take you down for all of that. That’s real.”
And she's been IN Vogue before — multiple times — but never nabbed the cover.
Most famously, she appeared in US Vogue's roastable "Jeans for every body" feature as the only plus size model in the video.
