Although Issa Rae is reaching icon status with her much-beloved HBO show "Insecure," it's always great to honor those magical Black queens who have paved the way.
And in a recent editorial shoot for Hannah magazine, Rae channeled many musical greats absolutely perfectly.
From Nina Simone to Missy Elliott, Issa honored them all — celebrating their iconic style and their contributions to culture.
Her interpretation of Nina Simone is breaktaking, especially with the flower crown!
(Here's the print of Nina Simone that inspired the styling.)
In her HBO show "Insecure," Rae's character lovesss hip-hop. So naturally, Missy Elliott's style had to be recreated, too!
From the tracksuits to the hat and yes, the gum, too, Rae definitely has this look down.
(Missy LOVED the picture, and even shared it on her Instagram with a message of love and support.)
"Yooooo big up @issarae for nailing this pic right here with a lil Missy vibe!? yall check out her dope photo shoot with #hannahmagazine she nailed pics of Solange & Nina also!???????????????? DOPENESS!" Elliott said in a post.
And Rae as Solange gave us the neo-soul vibes we'd always wanted.
With Solange's "A Seat at the Table" album being such a symbol of Black pride, evoking her groundbreaking look through fashion was a great move.
Here's an actual picture of Solange to compare.
Rae's shoot for Hannah demonstrated her versatility — and also how magical Black girls are!
