When you're on the New York City subway, or walking around the supermarket, what do you see? People, a lot of people, of all different ages, sizes, ethnicities, gender expressions — and seriously fabulous outfits. Now Universal Standard is celebrating the diversity of our everyday surroundings with its new subway ad campaign. It's one of the most inclusive ad campaigns we've ever seen — a diverse group of models decked out in the brand's comfortable basics look just like the people we see in our everyday lives.
Universal Standard's new subway ad campaign is a breath of fresh air.
An ad campaign that shows you what the clothes will look like on your body! Imagine! With its new campaign, Universal Standard reminds us that it's not enough to use straight-size and plus-size models — we need to see models that represent a wide variety of body types.
Universal Standard casted models right on the subway.
The subway theme isn't just the setting for the campaign; it's also where Universal Standard scouted their models. The brand approached over 100+ women for casting and settled on 26 models: "For every woman who said yes, six said no," said Universal Standard in a release.
If you're not down with Universal Standard, allow us to introduce you!
The brand has an innovative approach to online shopping.
In addition to the subway ads, Universal Standard has an innovative approach to buying clothes on its site. With their "See It in Your Size" shopping tool, customers can see what each size looks like on a body that actually wears that size. It seems like that should be a no-brainer, but luckily Universal Standard is establishing what should be a universal standard for buying online.
You'll see the ads everywhere in New York!
If you're in New York City, look forward to seeing the ads everywhere, including Times Square! The brand says the ads will also been at the Times Square 42nd Street subway station and in outdoor advertising posters in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
