Auli'i Cravalho "Little Mermaid: Live"

The live-action The Little Mermaid may still be far away, but Disney fans have something else mermaid-related coming up much sooner. This first look at the live musical is not to be confused with the live-action version starring Halle Bailey.

The live musical version of the animated classic, The Little Mermaid Live!, premieres on ABC on November 5, and it stars a former Disney Princess. Auli'i Cravalho, the voice of Moana, stars as Ariel. The rest of the cast, including John Stamos and Queen Latifah, were revealed in the teaser.

Live televised musicals have been hit or miss. Fox's Grease and NBC's Hairspray were entertaining, but NBC's Peter Pan was just plain weird. Hopefully ABC's version of the animated Disney classic does it justice on its 30th anniversary.

John Stamos, Queen Latifah, Shaggy — this cast is too perfect!

ABC dropped this teaser for The Little Mermaid Live! that shows off almost the entire cast. While prime characters like Flounder and King Triton are still a mystery, the rest of the ensemble is too good. I can't wait to see reggae artist Shaggy as the uptight Jamaican crab Sebastian and Queen Latifah was meant to play Ursula.

These live televised musicals often give networks a ratings boost, and fans already seem thrilled for this iteration.

One person on Twitter wrote excitedly, "Wow! I truly can’t wait for 'The Little Mermaid LIVE' on @ABCNetwork!!!" Casting Auli'i Cravalho, who gave Moana her voice, was a great choice. Clearly she has what it takes to sing like a Disney Princess.

Fans are drooling over the pick for Prince Eric: Graham Phillips.

Phillips has that dreamy boy next door quality and piercing blue eyes, which is exactly right for Prince Eric. Phillips is best known for his recurring roles on CBS's The Good Wife, as Nick St. Clair on Riverdale, and as Nate on Netflix's Atypical. Phillips definitely has singing chops; if Disney decides to include any songs for Eric, the 26-year-old was on Broadway with Ariana Grande in the musical 13

Have Mercy! John Stamos is Chef Louis, and people can't handle it.

Twitter is going crazy for the mustached John Stamos as the French chef. The Full House star looks hilarious in the part, and memes have already begun flooding the internet.

These first looks at most of the characters from The Little Mermaid Live! are getting people ready to watch the live musical. It will air on Tuesday, November 5 at 8 p.m./7c.
