Netflix just dropped the trailer for a prequel series to the fan favorite The Dark Crystal.

The star-studded cast for the fantasy series includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Taron Egerton, and Anya Taylor-Joy as the lead voices for the puppet characters. The series titled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance follows the three creatures — Gelflings — on a quest to save their world from evil overlords.

Netflix has a slew of original content, but this is one of its first original fantasy series to be released. Fans will have to wait until the end of the summer for this series, but from their reactions on Twitter it's clear they're ready for it now.

The trailer just dropped for the 2019 prequel, and it's ridiculously beautiful.

Elements from the trailer definitely draw from the 1982 Jim Henson original The Dark Crystal. This series follows three creatures called Gelflings named Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel), Rian (Taron Egerton), and Brea (Anya Taylor-Joy) through the world of Thra. The three discover a dark power that the evil Skeksis are using to fuel a rebellion.

Jim Henson's 1982 The Dark Crystal quickly gained cult-classic status when it debuted.

In the original, one Gelfling sets out on a quest to restore a powerful crystal that brings balance to his world by replacing a missing shard. In similar fashion to David Bowie's Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal is based around fantastical puppeteering and the creation of an original world. The upcoming series will be set before its predecessor.

The effects include animation, CGI, and puppeteering.

The characters in the series are controlled by master puppeteers, but the world around them is crafted through computer generation. The beautiful animation and stunning production design are key elements in any fantasy series, and is what makes fans so excited for this spin-off. The world created in the original was so iconic that this version had big shoes to fill.

The trailer has made fans extremely excited for the fantasy series.

The production design and world that the directors created clearly took an unbelievable amount of time and imagination. The fantasy series is a new project for Netflix, as the streaming service has never taken on something of this magnitude before.

One person shared on Twitter, "It’s been so long since a trailer but a fire in my belly. You can already tell creativity flourished here, and people were happy to make this. I’m so excited."

The series will bring about nostalgia for fans who remember the original and allow a new generation to appreciate the story.

The cult classic film brought up feelings of inspiration for many aspiring creative-minded people in the early '80s when it was first released.

One person shared on Twitter their memory of seeing the movie in theaters, "I saw the original in the theatre when I was 9 yrs old. It changed my artistic life, the breadth of the world, the scope of was scary as all get out. I truly hope this will do the same for other young creators."

It's already making fans emotional.

The beauty in the trailer is so overwhelming it's already bringing tears to some fans' eyes. One person wrote, "I may have cried while watching the new #DarkCrystal teaser trailer. It's so beautiful and I don't know what to do with myself."

Game of Thrones' Nathalie Emmanuel will play one of the Gelflings.

Emmaunel didn't have time to mourn her GOT character Missandei for long. Her next project, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, will release on Netflix, August 30. After the trailer was released, she was quick to shout-out her brave character Deet with a hashtag.

"The journey begins as darkness rises #DarkCrystal View the full teaser at @darkcrystalofficial #mygirlDeettho," Emmanuel wrote in her Instagram post.

The rest of the cast is filled with A-listers.

Of course, the star-studded cast includes Taylor-Joy, Egerton, and Emmanuel as the leads. But also it includes Theo James, Alicia Vikander, Andy Samberg, Natalie Dormer, Keegan Michael Key, Helena Bonham Carter, and Mark Hamill to name a few. Not to mention, the master puppeteers who worked to make the characters look as lifelike as possible.
