the good place still

It's time to say goodbye to Michael, Janet, Jason, Chidi, and Eleanor. The Good Place will end after its upcoming fourth season.

The series introduced activist and actor Jameela Jamil to the US audience, plus it starred Kristen Bell and William Jackson Harper. The NBC comedy had shocking twists, lovable characters, and priceless quotable moments.

Fans of the show are heartbroken to see it leave so soon but are grateful to the writers for strategically coming up with an ending.

The show's Twitter account shared the statement that revealed the network knew this would be the end since season two.

Fans can expect the final season to premiere this fall on NBC. The show's creator, Michael Schur, who has also worked on TV comedies such as Parks and Recreation and The Office (where he plays Dwight's brother Mose), said he felt four seasons was the right amount to tell the shows story.

"I began to feel like four seasons, just over 50 episodes, was the right lifespan. At times over the past few years we’ve been tempted to go beyond four seasons, but mostly because making this show is a rare, creatively fulfilling joy, and at the end of the day, we don’t want to tread water just because the water is so warm and pleasant. As such, the upcoming fourth season will be our last," Schur said in the statement.

Most fans, while bummed about the show's short run, are pretty grateful for the creators for not dragging it out just because it's doing well.

One fan of the show shared that he thought it was the right decision to close out the show before it dragged out and lost its fans. The tweet reads, "hot take!! choosing to end the good place when it feels right and not letting the show get dragged out and lose itself is such a respectable decision!! it’s sad for us now, but it’s infinitely better to end it right than have it drag out and lose us in the process!!!!!"

Janet? What show are we supposed to watch once The Good Place is officially over?

Other fans just focused on the fact that Thursday nights are going to be a lot more bleak now that the show is coming to an end. One person shared an image of Janet (D'Arcy Carden) and Michael (Ted Danson) and wrote, "when you find out the good place is ending after next season."

Jameela Jamil shared her goodbye on Twitter and revealed she thought it was the right timing to end the show, too.

The Tahani-actor wrote to her followers, "YOU HEARD CORRECT, This next season is the FINAL season of @nbcthegoodplace because Mike Schur is the classiest motherforkingshirtball ever and wanted to leave you at the right time in the right way. We love you and we hope you love our goodbye." The final season should wrap up the third season's plot twist in which all of the characters returned to the world of the living.

This bizarre behind-the-scenes video announced the fourth season.

The main characters are back in the neighborhood in this backstage sneak peek of season four. The fourth season was announced on the show's YouTube channel in this video that shows Chidi having some kind of breakdown and Michael and Janet dancing it out. Tahani, of course, seems unbothered by whatever mess is going on, and Jason (Manny Jacinto) crashes his bike.

The show gave us fan favorite characters like Harper's anxious Chidi and quotable moments like this one.

Another fan shared a clip of Chidi breaking down and wrote, "The Good Place, ending after four seasons?" The show was such a creative take on the traditional sitcom, which is why it will be so difficult to let go. The characters and the relationships among them were genuine and heartfelt.

The next and final season is sure to be a tearjerker.

After announcing this upcoming season will be the last the show's Twitter account tweeted, "*Cries in #TheGoodPlace*" along with this video showing some of the most heartfelt moments between the characters. Fans are already tweeting what they hope to see in the final season, most of all a wedding between the fan favorite couple Eleanor and Chidi. There's a lot to wrap up, so the fall premiere can't get here soon enough.
