We're counting down to the eighth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries," and while it’s going to be sad to say goodbye to Mystic Falls, I think we can all agree it's time to send off the show on a high note. Here’s hoping the final season includes more of those sizzling moments that had us fanning ourselves while begging for more from the early years!

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour in August, CW president Mark Pedowitz said that the show's EP Julie Plec “has planned a series finale that will satisfy fans.” Will that include the return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert? Pedowitz confirmed that there are ongoing discussions with Nina, and that they’d love to have her back in Season 8.

However, while there's no denying that Elena was a huge part of many of the show’s steamiest scenes, let’s not write off other great pairings from the past seven seasons. In a world of vampires, werewolves, witches and — at times — human juice boxes, romance is always what connected them all. Whether you’re a diehard Delena fan, mad about Klaroline, or still hopeful for a Stelena reunion, let’s look back at the hottest lip locks to ever go down on "TVD."

Caroline and Matt's paradise by the dashboard light (Episode 1.12)

Matt Donovan and Caroline Forbes grew up together, but they weren’t always friends. That all changed in Season 1 when he became her confidant, and they started spending a lot of time together in Caroline’s bedroom. Things took a turn for the romantic after the '50s Decade Dance in “Unpleasantville," and their first kiss was straight out of a classic Hollywood film. Their love came to an end in Season 2, but when it was at its best, these two were Mystic Falls #RelationshipGoals.

Damon and Rose devour each other (Episode 2.09)

Rose may not have been a fan fave, but there's no denying this pairing was short and sweet. In "The Sacrifice," Rose took a werewolf bite for Damon, leading to a friends-with-benefits situation that went far beyond sex. Their kiss was electrifying, but was definitely a case of “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.” In her short time on the show, Rose was a big Delena fan, and she knew that Damon's heart belonged to Elena. A close friendship formed between Rose and Damon, which made her demise that much more of a downer. He held her as she died, and her loss affected him for several episodes that followed.

Stefan and Caroline's heavenly hawtness (Episode 7.04)

Caroline has had the hots for Stefan since the first season, but Stefan only had eyes for Elena. After Caroline was turned into a vampire in Season 2, he became the Obi-Wan to her Luke. Steroline finally hooked up in Season 6 after being there for each other through murderous ripper rampages and losing loved ones, and things really heated up in Season 7 with their second hook-up after the Heaven and Hell Ball. That kiss was fiery enough to melt the halo right off Caroline’s head.

Bonnie and Jeremy's candlelit canoodling (Episode 5.08)

The on-again, off-again relationship between Elena’s best friend Bonnie and baby bro Jeremy defied the laws of death, but ultimately didn’t last. The duo finally consummated their relationship in Season 5, and this kiss in “Dead Man on Campus” is still fiery despite being interrupted by the ghost of a dead Jesse. Points to Bonnie for really knowing how to rip the shirt off a man in the best way possible.

Rebekah and Matt's tree tryst (Episode 5.01)

Matt and Original vampire Rebekah first got together in Season 4, but it’s this kiss in the Season 5 premiere, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” that had everyone talking. Talk about giving “tree hugger” a whole new meaning! The duo had just returned to Mystic Falls after a wild summer together in Europe, and made a brief escape from the end of summer bash to play a bit of tonsil hockey.

Damon and Elena's fireside flirtation (Episode 4.23)

The Season 4 finale "Graduation" was an action-packed episode, but it was Elena’s fireside confession to Damon that really put their subsequent kiss among the best ever: “I am not sorry that I’m in love with you. I love you, Damon.” The episode set our Delena-loving hearts all aflutter when Elena chose Damon, and that passionate kiss had us swooning.

Elena and Stefan between the sheets (Episode 1.13)

The Stelena sparks in Season 1 were so strong it's shocking the bed didn't catch on fire. “Children of the Damned” featured flashbacks to Stefan and Damon’s past and a kiss between Damon and Katherine, but this bed fort moment between Stefan and Elena in the prime of their love was magnificent. Not even a sullen, sarcastic Damon could ruin the tender moment.

Tyler and Caroline give in to their lust (Episode 3.01)

What happens when a vampire and a werewolf finally give into their urges? This scene in the Season 3 premiere. Caroline took some time out from planning Elena’s 18th birthday bash to finally scratch an itch that had been building for a while. Although a werewolf bite is fatal to a vampire, Caroline and Tyler tempted fate and succumbed to their desire.

Elena and Damon kissin' in the rain (Episode 6.07)

This was actually part of a flashback in “Do You Remember the First Time” after Elena was compelled to forget her love for Damon following his death. She had some flashes of their relationship but couldn’t remember their last night together before she went to Whitmore College. Damon and Elena had been at the lake watching a meteor shower when they got caught in a rainstorm. When he returned from the dead, Damon lied to Elena and said once the rain started that night, they were miserable and left early. What really happened was Elena professed her eternal love to Damon and then kissed him in the pouring rain. We all needed a cold shower after this one!

Damon and Rebekah's dangerous liaison (Episode 3.14)

“Dangerous Liaisons” may have been the second time that Damon told Elena that he loves her, but Elena rejected him, saying that his love for her was the problem plaguing them all. Damon found solace in the arms of another woman, Rebekah, leading to this shirt-ripping, neck-nibbling romp that ended the episode with a literal bang.

Katherine and Stefan's tomb of debauchery (Episode 2.11)

It was a full moon frenzy in “By the Light of the Moon,” with Stefan and Katherine’s mind games morphing into sexy love games. While trapped in the tomb, Katherine got into Stefan’s head and reminded him of how intense their love used to be. If anything, this scene makes crypts look like the hottest make out spot ever.

Klaus and Caroline's frolic in the forest (Episode 5.11)

Caroline helped bring out Klaus’ softer side when he healed her with his blood after an accidental werewolf bite from Tyler. The romantic gestures continued with drawings of horses and offers of world travel, but it wasn’t until Season 5’s “500 Years of Solitude“ that she admitted they had a connection — and then their lips and bodies made a connection, too. The sweet, sweet Klaroline lovin' we’d been wanting for so long didn't disappoint, but it also didn’t last long: Klaus headed off to New Orleans, but promised he’d always be there if Caroline needed him.

Damon and Elena's motel of love (Episode 3.19)

The music. The intensity. The expression on Elena’s face. This Delena moment has to be the hottest kiss on the show to date, and the one that put the stake through the heart of Stelena shippers everywhere. Although they didn’t actually become a couple until Season 4, this was one of the biggest turning points of the series. Delena madness took hold of the fandom, and all of Damon’s prior offenses against Elena and her loved ones were forgiven.
