In case you needed another reason to masturbate (which you don't, but here you go anyway), it's this: A good old-fashioned pleasure sesh can help alleviate menstrual cramps.
No, really!
In fact, it may actually be the best solution, according to OB/GYN Dr. Alyse Kelly-Jones in an interview with Aly Walansky for The Berry.
“Orgasms help strengthen the pelvic floor and improve blood flow to the genitals,” Dr. Kelly-Jones said. And during orgasm, your tolerance for pain goes up — hence the sweet, sweet relief.
Family nurse practitioner Sandy Knauf hasn't seen any research proving that masturbation really does solve period cramp problems, she told Kotex, but acknowledged that orgasm releases feel-good chemicals in the brain and "in that respect, I would agree that masturbating might help with your period cramps."
If it helps you, she said, then go for it.
In short: Masturbation is a godsend, and if you're not doing it already, then get on that, STAT — doctor's orders.
