The body-positivity movement has so many precious heroes who encourage people to love themselves and their bodies! One of those leaders on Instagram is Maria Odugba, a plus-size yoga instructor who uses her platform to encourage people to love their bodies while working hard to making themselves feel good in the inside through the practice.
"In 2014, I decided to change my life for the better. I weighed over 400 lbs and I realized that I had hit rock bottom," she wrote on her fitness blog. "Just like many others, I tried to lose weight for years and nothing seemed to stick. I was a member at almost every gym in the city I lived in, but nothing kept me interested. I decided to stop listening to what everyone else was telling me to do and create my own healthy lifestyle. Through proper diet, strength training, and cardio I have lost over 120lbs and look forward to reaching my goal weight."
The best part about Odugba is that she doesn't just focus on weight-loss, and she doesn't push an agenda that's all about encouraging people to achieve a certain standard of beauty. Instead, she shares her journey about challenging herself to see her body "do the things it once could not do" and to defy stereotypes about what a healthy lifestyle and a person dedicated to fitness look like.
